The Inspiration Of Flaherty's Crossing

Flaherty's Crossing was originally inspired by Linda's father, Merle McPherren, who passed away on July 15, 1991 with the love of his life, his wife Jean, at his side. His Irish wit, stubbornness, and the bravery he exuded during his relentless battle with terminal cancer sparked the idea for a novel and was further developed and edited with the assistance of Kristina McMorris, Linda's eldest daughter.

Not only does this faith-seeking tale delve into the complex emotions of bidding a final farewell to an estranged parent, but it also explores the strain placed on a marital relationship when childhood issues go unresolved.

Giving Yourself Permission to Lighten Up

Engrained in our culture is the belief that unbending discipline is the only sure way to success. You must go to the gym five times a week, never order the dessert, and don't even think about buying that dress you keep staring at in the store window. Breaking from such a regimented lifestyle is a sign of weakness, right? Wrong!-and Joyce wants to tell us why...

Though setting rules in our lives are important, it's just as important that we break them from time-to-time. Structure is a powerful tool, but when diverging from your own goals is seen as catastrophic, it can have a hugely negative effect on us. Balance is a core value in life and every once in awhile we deserve to indulge in a guilty pleasure or two. So don't feel bad about straying from your goals every once-in-awhile and in fact, embrace it: eat the cookie and buy the shoes!

The Passionate King

Words worthy to meditate on. The Passionate King. Many times people view God as this critical judgemental God that is going to turn them into a pillar of salt or rain judgement upon their lives. Christ, the King, died for our sins. Through his blood and the finished work of the cross we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. It is by grace that we are saved, through faith.

While God is a God of judgement, he is also a God of love and mercy, and mercy triumphs over judgement.

Meditate on Christ as the passionate King. Meditate on the very love of Christ that Paul spoke of. Receive God's love, compassion and tender mercies and come to know Him as your passionate King. For love is the greatest of all gifts and a gift from God to all of us.
